Emma "Tootsie" Walls

April 8, 1929 — March 29, 2022

Mrs. Emma Lee Walls, known by most as “Tootsie” passed away peacefully at the Montezuma Health and Rehabilitation Center on March 29, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at Cedar Valley Baptist Church on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m with Pastor Damon Fountain officiating the service. Burial will follow in Bertha Dozier Memorial Park Cemetery, Montezuma, GA.

The family will receive friends at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Walls was the only child of Fred L. Parks and Ora B. Parks. She was born April 8, 1929 in Montezuma, Georgia where she lived her entire life except for a brief time spent in Fort Valley, Georgia.  In 1943, she married the love of her life, George W. (GW) Walls.  They were married for sixty-two years until the passing of GW in 2005. In 1964 they purchased a home on Arnold Street where they lived for many years. Both were active members of Cedar Valley Baptist Church in Montezuma. They raised two sons, George E (Elvis) Walls Sr. and James Wallace Walls.

Mrs. Walls was known for her cooking and always welcomed anyone that wanted one of her home-made biscuits, bowl of dumplings (dumplins), plate of butter beans or a piece of dessert, to pull up a chair and join in.  She enjoyed cooking on Sundays for family, friends and anyone else that wanted to have a homemade meal.  She worked her entire career as a seamstress for Forest Mills and later for the Vanna Corporation. It was not until she retired from her secular job that she pursued her real passion-Baking Cakes. For many years after retiring, she made and sold cakes. It is still up for debate which one was the best, the 16- layer chocolate cake, the caramel cake or the carrot cake. After she stopped driving, she still enjoyed riding and visiting old friends. Lunch at Troy’s or a quick stop at Lanes Peach Packing for some peach ice cream was always on the list.  Everyone will remember Tootsie for her kind heart, sweet voice and beautiful smile.

Today we remember the life of this dear sweet lady, Tootsie.  She leaves behind a son, James W. Walls and wife Barbara of Greensboro, North Carolina; three grandkids: George E. Walls, Jr. of Centerville, Georgia, Tia Walker (Jason) of Hawkinsville, Georgia, and Jeremy Walls (Linda) of Kernersville, North Carolina; five great-grandchildren; Brittany Williams (Brad) of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Tyler Rainey (Kylie )of Pinehurst, Georgia, Elvis Walls,  IV (Kaity) of Kathleen, Georgia, Quinn Walls of Kernersville, North Carolina and Rebecca Walls of Kernersville, North Carolina.  She also leaves behind six great-great-grandchildren: Regan Rainey, Kinsley Rainey, Ryder Rainey, Sophia Walls, Colson Walls and Barrett Williams.

Along with her parents, Fred L. Parks and Ora B. Parks, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, GW Walls, her eldest son, George Elvis Walls, Sr. and a great-grandson, George Elvis Walls, III.

A special thanks to Linda and Morris Nathasingh for their help with Mrs. Walls in her later years, and granddaughter, Tia Walls.  The family would also like to thank the staff at the Montezuma Health and Rehab Center, especially Ivory Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Affinis Hospice. Please make checks payable to Community Health Foundation, 1005 Boulder Drive, Gray, Georgia 30132.
