Theron Wilkes Jr., age 91, of Andersonville, Ga., passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Still Water Chapel in Ideal, Ga. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the funeral service. Pastor Roy Peterson will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Oliver Cemetery in Byromville, Ga.
Mr. Wilkes was a faithful member of Still Water Chapel, where his steadfast spirit and warm presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was also a dedicated member of Masonic Lodge #13, where he upheld the principles of brotherhood, charity, and integrity.
Mr. Wilkes found great joy in life’s simpler pleasures—especially fishing and traveling. Whether casting a line on a quiet afternoon or exploring new places, he embraced every moment with a sense of wonder and appreciation.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Wilkes; three sons, Clyde E. Mercer, Timothy D. Mercer, and Clarence E. Mercer; two daughters, Melissa H. Jones (Daniel) and Teresa Petersen (Juan); one brother, Douglas Wilkes; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will continue to live on through each of them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theron Wilkes Sr. and Esther Wilkes; four children, Ann Dees, Ellen Zarnits, Marsha Baker, and an infant son; and six siblings, Lilian Johnson, Louise Johnson, Fred Wilkes, Billy Joe Wilkes, Harold Wilkes, and Dale Wilkes.
Mr. Wilkes will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to enduring faith, deep family bonds, and unwavering kindness.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Georgia.
