John Edmond Mayo, a devoted family man and retired Truck Driver with Perry Brothers Oil Company in Americus, Georgia, passed away on May 7, 2026, in his hometown of Oglethorpe, Georgia. Born on August 1, 1944, in Oglethorpe, Edmond spent his life deeply connected to the community and the outdoors, cherishing simple pleasures that reflected his grounded and steady character.
Edmond's professional career was marked by dedication and a strong work ethic, serving with Perry Brothers Oil Company until his retirement. Beyond his vocation, he had a profound love for fishing and spending time outdoors, passions that brought him joy and peace throughout his life. He was also an avid fan of the Andy Griffith Show and baseball, particularly loyal to the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves, often sharing the excitement of the games with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Mayo; his son, Michael "Keith" Mayo and his wife Amber of Evans, Georgia; his sister, Joyce Lewis of Montezuma, Georgia; and several brothers-in-law: Eugene Stuckey, Mitchell Stuckey (Inez), Larry Stuckey (Penny), and Milton Allen (Kay). Edmond was also a proud grandfather to Ava Mayo and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and dedication. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Mayo and Effie Cromer Mayo.
The visitation for John Edmond Mayo will be held at Whitewater Baptist Church, located at 1955 Georgia 128, Oglethorpe, GA 31068, on May 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This will be followed immediately by the funeral service at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM with Rev. Lance Bernard officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Craig Allen officiating the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Stuckey, Jr., Curtis Carter, Johnathan Wainwright, Jake Wilson, Wyatt Hale, Wyade Hale, and Tyler Yaughn, all of whom held a special place in John's life.
Edmond Mayo’s life will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, his love of the natural world, and his genuine spirit. He leaves behind a meaningful legacy cherished by all who knew him.
Donations may be made in Edmonds name to Whitewater Baptist Church.
