Gertrude Sanders Wallis was born March 2, 1930 in Dooly County, Georgia in the city of Vienna to the late Edwin Sanders and Carrie Ruby Rowland Sanders. She was a graduate of Byromville High School, Class of 1947.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Wallis as well as her three children, Franklin Lamar Lamberth, Sandra Kay Wade and Roy Travis Wallis; and her granddaughter, Marcie Delaina Plunkett.

She is survived by five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren all of whom affectionally refer to her as “Grandma Trudy.”

Grandchildren: Mindy Lamberth Morris (Stephen), Zachary Edgar Alderson (Barbee), Franklin Lamar Lamberth, Jr., Jared Curtis Alderson (Jodi) and James Edwin Lamberth.

Great-grandchildren: Alyssa Cassady (David), Austin Robinson (Micah), Maci Harmon (Corey), Haley Windham (Lakota), Kylie Lawhorn, James Mason Lamberth, Danica Morris and Elizabeth, Joseph, Isaac, Alexander, Adelaide, Solomon & Oliver Alderson. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Sanders Gant and preceded in death by her other siblings, Grace, Roland and Geraldine. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Her family was precious to her, at 96 years of age she could still recall all of their names and birthdates. Gertrude never moved far from the town of Lily, Georgia where she grew up. Although her siblings moved as far away as the states of New York and Florida, she kept up with them through consistent phone conversations throughout her life.

She had several hobbies that she enjoyed, including writing for the “Citizen of Georgia” newspaper as well as writing poetry and working on her autobiography. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening and processed and froze many, many vegetables. In addition, she loved to plant and grow flowers up into her nineties. She had an extremely green thumb, it seemed anything she touched grew. She also delighted in crocheting, embroidery and other hand crafts. She crocheted countless afghans for family & friends. As long as her health permitted she was active in the Church & Community. She had a deep love for God; He was her constant strength. She was steadfast and faithful to God and her family for ninety-six years.

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV
