Elvie Marie Head Norman, age 85, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday April 9, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Red Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Oglethorpe, Georgia. Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until the service.
Marie was born on March 21, 1941, to the late David Layfette and Lily Sue Head. She went on to marry her husband Johnny Eugene Norman on September 16, 1959. They moved to Burlington, North Carolina in 1976 and lived there until retiring and moving back to Andersonville, Georgia in 2001. She loved to spend time outdoors, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Red Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Oglethorpe, Georgia.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Johnny Eugene Norman; children, Linda Hartman of Andersonville, Georgia, Sharon Baldwin (Eric) of Elon, North Carolina, and Patsy Wallace (Steve) of Macon, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Cox (Katrina) of Andersonville, Georgia, Glenn Hartman of Perry, Georgia, Sara Cameron of Macon, Georgia, Aaron Baldwin of Elon, North Carolina, Erika Heritage (Justin) of Burlington, North Carolina, Christina Torres (Macho) of Ellijay, Georgia, Carol DenHartog (Eric) of Jasper, Georgia, and Hugh Harris Jr. (Jessika) of Ruidoso, New Mexico; fourteen grandchildren, Elizabeth Cox, Elvie Cox, Jonathan Cox Jr., Ruby Register, Matthew Baldwin, Levi Heritage, Gemma Heritage, Millie Heritage, Georgia Heritage, AJ Torres, Khloe Torres, Taylor Greendale, and Ezra DenHartog, Marloe Harris; and her sister, Mary Johnson of Andersonville, Georgia.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, David Layfette and Lily Sue Head; and her son-in-law, Hugh Frederick Harris Sr.
Those who are bringing food to the church should have it there by noon on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations may be made to help cover the funeral arrangements.
Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Georgia has been entrusted with the arrangements.
