Dean R. Prickett Sr., age 80, of Montezuma, Georgia, passed away on February 28, 2026.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 3, 2026 at 5 PM at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Georgia. Visitation will be held on March 3, 2026 from 4-5 PM at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Jonathan Beckum will be officiating the service.

Dean Prickett’s priorities in life were simple. He loved his family, he loved farming, and he loved animals and not one more than the other. He lived by the motto, “It is better to give than to receive”. He gave his time, his talents, advice, wisdom, and humor to all he loved.

He was born in New Jersey but spent the last 50 years in Georgia. He valued hard work over everything and believed a handshake meant your word. He taught his children to work hard and to leave things better than they found them. He never minced words and you always knew his opinion. He had an ability to think things through and was full of knowledge that can’t be duplicated. He had a heart bigger than he wanted people to know and helped countless people quietly never wanting attention and never asking for anything in return.

Dean is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Prickett; two sons, Dean R. Prickett Jr. (Staci), and Darren R. Prickett (Holly); daughter, Dana Prickett; six grandchildren, Leah Kelley, Trey Prickett, Evan W. Prickett, Reed M. Prickett, Jim G. Kittrell, and Deanna Kittrell; and two brothers, Steven Prickett and John Prickett.

Mr. Prickett is preceded in death by his parents, Marriott H. Prickett and Elizabeth K. Prickett along with his sisters, Lynette Seth and Elaine Nobles

He was known for taking in stray animals and he cared for them with so much love. He found joy in going above and beyond to help those who needed it the most. It’s true he mostly cared for dogs, but he also rehabilitated a pigeon he found hurt who he named Walter as well as a couple of ducks and a pond full of fish he treated as his pets.

Dean leaves behind a loving wife who has been by his side for 60 years. They endured everything life threw at them together and their commitment to one another is admired and respected. Dean’s family depended on him and loved him and somehow even when times were hard, he always came through for the people he loved. To say he will be missed is an understatement and the impact he made is everlasting.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Dean’s name to your local humane society.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Georgia.
