MONTEZUMA, GA - Daniel "Dan" Owen Harvill, Sr. age 92 of Oglethorpe, GA passed away Thursday morning, December 23, 2010 at the Flint River Hospital in Montezuma, GA.
Visitation was from 4 to 6 pm, Sunday, Dec. 26 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Funeral services were 11 am, Monday, Dec. 27 at Mt. Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church, 401 Randolph Street, Oglethorpe, GA with Pastor Harry E. Tedrow officiating. Burial followed in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
Dan was born on July 14, 1918 in Rockdale County, GA to the late W.A. Harvill and Mamie Austin Harvill. He was a member of Mt. Zion-St. Luke Lutheran Church since 1947. He was the oldest living member. He was a Propane Gas Distributor for 29 years, before retiring in 1980 with Par Gas Inc. He was an army veteran of WWII serving in the third army in the European Theatre. He graduated from Conyers High School and attended University of Georgia. He was a member of the Oglethorpe Lions Club since 1947 and held every office in the club. He was a member of Travelers Rest Masonic Lodge F&AM inMontezuma, GA, since 1950 and was Worshipful Master in 1955. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Order and Al Sihah Shrine Temple. He was president of the Georgia Propane Gas Dealers Association and member of W. Rawls Hogg Post 6442, VFW since 1946. He was active in numerous other community activities and served on a number of boards and committees.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Louise Hammock Harvill of Oglethorpe, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Martin Pinsky of Lawrenceville, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Harvill, Jr. and wife Shirley of McDonough, GA, Andrew and Carla Harvill of Covington, GA; 7 grandchildren, Dan and Pettle Harvill III, Eric and Marimar Harvill, Ryan and Bernadette Harvill, Geoffrey and Kelly Pinsky, John and Christina Pinsky, Andrew Harvill, Jr., Nathan Harvill; 5 step grandchildren, Todd and Cheryl Babb, Tammy Troy, Holly Goolsby, Kurt Hester and Kevin Hester, 12 great grandchildren also survive.
