Bettye Griffin Clay

Bettye Bridges Griffin Clay, age 93, of Ideal, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 2 PM at Ideal Baptist Church in Ideal, Georgia. Visitation will be held at the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the funeral service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry, Georgia.

Mrs. Bettye was born on January 16, 1933, to the late William Trent Bridges and Ina Hardison Bridges. She found joy in painting, sewing, and especially gardening. Mrs. Bettye was a devoted member of Ideal Baptist Church in Ideal.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Sidney Clay; sister, Lillian Williams; two children, Phil Griffin (Debbie), and Sharon Robertson (Dee); six grandchildren, Angela Lee, Ruckus Skye (Mellisa), Dawn Spikes, Phillips Eugene Griffin III, Michele Robertson, and Brian Keith Griffin; along with many great-grandchildren.

Bettye is preceded in death by her first husband, Phillips Eugene Griffin Sr.; parents, William and Ina Bridges; two sisters, Lucielle Johnson and Mary Coody; and an infant daughter, Betty Carol Griffin.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Georgia.
